Terms of use

1. Purpose

These terms govern the use of Localex, a free tool published by Avlex Belgium SRL, Boulevard de l'Empereur 10, 1000 Bruxelles, enterprise number 1036.582.778 ("Avlex", "we"). By using the tool, you accept these terms.

2. The service

• The tool detects and replaces personal and identifying data in your documents, then lets you restore the original values with a key.
• Its core is free and requires no account.
• The AI features, case-file mode, firm profiles and the pseudonymisation certificate are free. You unlock them by verifying your e-mail address.
• Documents are processed in your browser. We do not receive your documents.

3. The tool's role and the user's responsibility

• The tool assists you. It does not replace you.
• You alone remain responsible for the result, for observing professional secrecy and for your data protection obligations, in particular in light of the OVB and AVOCATS.BE AI guidelines. See the detailed mapping.
• Reviewing the result is mandatory before any export.
• No detection is exhaustive. We do not guarantee that all personal or identifying data will be detected.
• The tool does not give legal advice and does not check the content of an AI answer.

4. Your documents

You choose which documents you process and what you do with them. You are the controller of the personal data they contain. Since Avlex does not receive these documents, Avlex acts neither as a controller nor as a processor for them.

5. Restore key

The restore key and its passphrase stay on your device. You alone are responsible for keeping them safe and confidential. We have no copy: if you lose them, restoring is impossible.

6. Licence for the AI features

• The licence is free, personal and valid for 12 months. You can renew it by confirming your e-mail address again.
• You may not share, transfer or sell it.
• You may not circumvent the e-mail verification, the licence checks or the download limits, or access the AI files without a valid licence.
• We may revoke a licence in case of abuse or breach of these terms, or if we stop offering these features. A revoked licence can no longer be used to download AI files.

7. Acceptable use

You agree to:

• use the tool lawfully;
• request unlocking only with your own e-mail address;
• not disrupt the service, for example with mass automated requests or an intrusion attempt;
• not circumvent the service's technical protection measures.

8. Availability

The tool is provided "as is" and "as available". We may change, suspend or discontinue it, in whole or in part, in particular for maintenance or security reasons. The AI models and detection rules may change.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by Belgian law, Avlex is not liable for:

• the consequences of an item that was not detected or was wrongly replaced, since reviewing the result is your task;
• the use you make of the result, in particular sending it to a third-party AI tool;
• the loss of your restore key or passphrase;
• indirect damage, such as loss of clients, revenue or data;
• unavailability of the service.

These limits do not apply to our intentional misconduct, to damage to life or physical integrity (Belgian Civil Code, Article 5.89), or where mandatory rules, in particular consumer protection rules, prohibit them.

10. Intellectual property

The tool, its own code, texts and design belong to Avlex Belgium SRL or its licensors. Open-source components remain under their own licences: see Credits. We claim no rights over your documents or over the files you produce.

11. Personal data

How your data is processed, including when you unlock, is described in the privacy notice.

12. Changes

We may change these terms. The date of the last update is shown on this page. Significant changes are announced on the site. They apply to use after their publication.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Belgian law. The courts of Brussels have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory rules that designate another court, in particular in favour of consumers. If the language versions differ, the French version prevails.
